The Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre, the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre, the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre, the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women and the North Fraser Pre-trial Services Centre each are designated as a "Provincial mental health facility" under the Mental Health Act, while patients from the Forensic Psychiatric Institute are located in those facilities.

Chilliwack General Hospital, and any facilities or parts of facilities, whether fixed or mobile, where Chilliwack General Hospital provides general services under the Hospital Insurance Act, is designated as a hospital under section 1 of the Hospital Act.

Riverview Hospital Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is designated as a hospital for the purposes of Part XX.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada, while patients from the Provincial Forensic Psychiatric Institute are located in that facility.
